We used the Junkyard Symphony performance as a springboard to inspire our students to create musical instruments out of recyceled materials. Pat Ollevier. The Junkyard Symphony Show was an exciting and original musical presentation! We consider ourselves ever so fortunate to have had Junkyard Symphony visit the far "North". They encouraged the children to use their creative talents to make a difference in the world.We need to contantly remind children of how imprtatnt music is and encourage various forms of it. *Please read carefully to ensure all requirements are met.* For multiple performances at the same elementary school, Junkyard Symphony strongly encourages mixed audiences of primary and junior classes. For workshops, maximize students’ chances for success by arranging the circular seating plan to minimize social distractions. There is a max of 30 students per workshop. Please do not excede this limit as Junkyard Symphony only provides 30 drums. Arrival and Set up Performance: Junkyard Symphony arrives one hour before the performance. Please make sure that the performance area is clear of students. 2 volunteer students may help carry in equipment. Junkyard Symphony uses a large set up and will need to position their van as close as possible to the performing area. Please ensure that the school custodian is notified about their arrival to best facicilate this process (i.e. open gym door, unlock gate if necessary). If the door to the performace area opens up onto the school yard, please notify Junkyard Symphony of recess Tempus Sans ITC so that they are not unloading while the children are out at play. Contact Jonny Olsen at junkyardjonny@junkyardsymphony.com Workshops: Junkyard Symphony arrives half an hour before the workshops. While the equipment for the workshops is not as abundant as that for the show, easy acces to the workshop area is recommended. Please make sure that the workshop area is clear of students. 2 volunteer students may help carry in equipment. Facilities Performance: As Junkyard Symphony uses a very large set up, the performance must take place in the gym, preferebly on the stage if possible. If not, the performance can take place on the ground. Please make sure that the stage is clear, and the stage lights and gym lights are turned on. Workshops: Can be done in the gym, the library or a large class room. Please note that the workshop can be loud at Tempus Sans ITC so it is best to choose a class room that is more secluded. It is very difficult to move the equipment between class so please schedule all the workshops in the same room. If your school is booking a Junk Pack (Performance with three workshops), the workshops must be done in the gym where the junk is already set up. Seating: Performance: No student chairs are required for the performance especailly if the performance is on the ground rather than the stage, but chairs for the teachers and guests is suggested. There will be pilons set up to mark the front row and center isle. Students are to sit on the left and right of the center ilse. If the performance is on the stage, high shcools may set up chairs for the students if they wish. Please leave a center isle. Workshops: Please push any tables to the side to allow a cirlce of 30 chairs to be set up in the middle of the room. Program Length Performance: 1 hour. Shorter or longer performance available upon request. Workshops: Half day- 2 1 hour sessions.full day- 4 1 hour sessions. Junk Pack- 1 performance plus 3 1 hour sessions. Post Show Performance: On hour is require to pack up the equipment. Please keep students clear. 2 volunteer students may help carry out equipment.
