Fun in FairField.
Junkyard Symphony's Junkyard Jam performed at the Arts Walk and EcoJam in Fairfield Iowa,. Junkyard Jonny and Landfill Lil wooped it up inside an old armouries building in the bustling downtown of Fairfield for the Arts Walk, and then the next evening in the new arts centre for the Eco Jam. Wonderful models displayed clothing made from reused items while Junkyard Symphony closed out the show with their radical rhythms and crazy cat walk antics.
Fairfield is about an hours drive from Cedar Rapids. Junkyard Jonny and Landfill Lil spent the Sunday roller-blading around Fairfiled, checking out the scenery and cute houses like the one seen left. They were also recognized everywhere they went that day by people who had seen the show the night before. They were a big hit.
In this video you can see one of Junkyard Symphony's most hilarious cheerleaders. This little guy just doesn't want to hold on to the box so Jonny must resort to using duct tape.

Primal Percussion
Junkyard Symphony's newest show Primal Percussion played at the Ottawa vs Pittsburgh playoff game Monday April 11 and Wed April 13. Junkyard Jonny, Speedy Spence and Dangerous Dylan banged out the beats to a fabulous light show at the beginning of the game and during commercial breaks. You could see them in the organ stand and on the Jumbotron in front of 2000 Senators Fans.

Junkyard Symphony Jams at Junkfest in California.
The brainchild of Junkmaster Bernie Dekoven, Junkfest in Redondo Beach was an awesome beginning to a new type of festival, a festival that celebrate junk, and who better to have attend than Junkyard Symphony, featuring Junkyard Jonny and Landfill Lill. Dekoven, who teaches sports with Junk, was jaccompanied by junk aritist Classic Jassic who took two front ends of two junk cars and welded them together, thus creating a car that can drive sideways. All in all, the Junkfest was a success, and Lil and Jonny were happy to catch a few Los Angeles sights, like strolling along the crowded Hollywood Blvd on Halloween night and rollerblading along Venice beach. Junkfest on Youtube as appeared on CNN.

Terrific Trio Terrorizes Kingston.
Sorry you had to see that Kingston. Look out Ottawa, the trio is coming soon! It's amazing what a big man in a bikini can accomplish, but thanks to the sexy style of Dumpster Don, Junkyard Symphony cleaned up at the Kingston Busker Rendez-Vous selling 500 CD's in just one weekend. Not bad for pink poka dots. The new show had tons of followers and it's hard to say weather it was teanage girls or teanage boys, or ladies in their 30's. It is safe to say that everyone enjoyed the wildly hilarious new show and Ottawa will be lucky (or horrified) to see more of the same at the Busker Festival on Aug ong weekend.

Something Fishy Going On at Crabfest.
It's weird but for some reason the Kincolith Crabfest keeps inviting Junkyard Symphony back. Playing alongside bands such as Jeff Healey and Nazareth, Junkyard Symphony's Junkyard Jonny and Landfill Lil rocked the mainstage again with their funky beats and audience participation. Jonny took the opportunity to play a wild drum solo on Nazareth's drum kit. The sounds guys were quite surprised. Who knew that Jonny can actually drum. Landfill Lil did her best to drum after the long plane ride with crying babies, but she did a stellar job on the junk kit as usual.

We Say Ottawa, You Say Senators!
Junkyard Symphony's Drum Corps had their first ever show at the Scotiabank Place last night for the Sens game against Florida. The Corps performed a 90 second piece during a commercial break, playing on junk bottle cap snares, garbage cans, recycle bins, shakers, a gong and a didjeridu. The crowd seemed to really enjoy the piece entitled "Sens Explosion!" and it appeared that the Sens did exactly that as the score was a wopping 6-0 in favour of the Sens. Danny Heatley scored two goals and Ray Emery got the shut out. The Team would like to thank Glen Gower of the Ottawa Senators organization for organizing the event and gifting the team with Sens Army Shirts.

Junkyard Symphony Glows in Vancouver
Who would have thought that water jugs could glow. They glow bright blue under the rays of a black light, which inspired Junkyard Symphony to outfit their equipment with glow tape as they performed for thousands of people at Vancouver's Fright Nights at the PNE from Oct 22 to Halloween. While the tempurature dropped to minus 2, Junkyard Jonny and Trashcan Tony kept the crowd warm with their thrilling beats and glow in the dark props, and scared people with their didjeridu and crazy balancing feats.

An Ironhorse is a Train
...Just in case you didn't know. That's where the Junkyard Symphony ended up on the last weekend of the summer, in St. Thomas Ontario for the Ironhorse Festival. While the last show poured down buckets, festival goers still stopped to watch Junkyard Jonny do his tricks in the rain, while Landfill Lil drummed comfortably underneath the stage roof. The last two shows were canceld but the organizers were happy with the shows that Junkyard Symphony had performed the day before on the main stage.

Long trip to Kincolith
Not many Canadians know where Kincolith is, but it is in Canada, on the edge of Canada that is. Take a flight over the mountains from Vancouver into Terrace, grazing the mountain tops as you land, then take a long winding three hour drive on a road with eagles, black bears and bridges wide enough for only one vehicle, and that's where you'll find Kincolith, at the top of British Columbia next to Alaska. At what is there? Not a whole lot...except for CRABFEST! Yeah it was strange to set up a humungous stage with bands from all over North America for a little tiny town of population 400, but CRABFEST was a lot of fun, with great bands such as Red Nation and Honeymoon Suite, and everyone was very nice and hospitable. The Crab was good too! Junkyard Symphony got crabs! They were especially well received as all the male drummers of all the bands especially developed a chill for Landfill Lill's killin' drumming skills.

Success at Sussex!
24 Sussex Drive that is! And what a funny site it was to see Junkyard Symphony and Junkmobile drive into 24 Sussex Drive to unload all their junk and place it beside the fancy buffets and decorations of the Harper's Garden Party. It was a little odd, but great all at the same time. We all know that even though Junkyard Symphony plays on junk, they are truly one of the classiest acts around, and that's just what the Prime Minister thought too. "All the guests, not just the kids, loved the show," he politley said to Junkyard Jonny and Landfill Lill. His daughter Rachel especially loved being the "Cheer" girl too! Hilary Nicolson who hired the gang for the party said Junkyard Symphony was "phenomenally successful"! You can't get higher praise than that.

Jonny the Great!
Not many Canadians know where Macedonia is either, but now Junkyard Jonny does. It's that little county above Greece where Aleksander the Great came from. Visiting the city of Skopje for the first ever Skopje Busker Festival Jonny, joined a team of over 40 performers from Canada and around the world to make the Skopje Busker Festival the biggest and most successful festival Macedonia has ever seen. Do they speak English there? Surprisingly most people have a good understanding of English, but Jonny did his show completely silent as an experiment for future world shows. While it started off a little rocky, it finished by rocking out the square on the final evening of the Festival. Way to go Jonny!

Recycled Circus Show Electrifying!
It seemed like the clock was against them, the Van broke down, and the opening signer got sick and cancelled, but somehow Junkyard Symphony managed to pull off a great Reycled Rcircus show in Perth with Landfill Lill on Drums, and Junkyard Jonny, Scrapyard Stewie and Dumpster Don filling out the juggling. The Perth Courier must have loved the show as they posted three pictures in the next week's paper. The EMC paper also posted a picture of Dumpster Don in his tagert man suit on the front page. Even though the show was a at 7pm, and the Junk Mobile pulled out Canadian Tire at 4:15 that same day, somehow the show started on time, and rocked to boot! Way to go guys!

Junkyard Jonny and Junkyard Jen Rock Southern Ontario
With 13 Shows in 6 days, Junkyard Jonny and Junkyard Jen rocked Southern Ontario with shows beginning at The Markham Fair, moving on to schools shows in Pefferlaw, Kitchener, and St. Agatha, then finishing of the tour with an awesome night of the Planet Junk Show in London at a cool bar called the Barking Frog. While the trip was lots of work, all the shows turned out great. Jen even found the guts to go on the "Drop Zone" at the Markham fair, but she screamed all the way up instead of all the way down. While Jonny and Jen don't get to work together too often, the pair performed some of Junkyard Symphony's best Shows.

The Super Streets Show Seemed Spectacular in the Soo
While the drive is about nine hours, through construction and car accidents, the trip to Sault St. Marie is well worth it, especially if you are going there to see the Busker Festival. Using the small set up for the first time at a Busker Festival allowed Jonny and Tony to set up and tear down relatively quickly, but the show was still just as good as the medium set up show. Jonny and Tony were just as popular as usual, especially Jonny who organized a spoof of the Spring Action show, called “Schwing Action” in Which, Jonny, Dan the One Man Band and Reuben from Fasthorse, dressed up in leotards and attempted their best trampoline tricks. It was painful yet funny to watch.

Junkyard Symphony Heading into their Busiest Month Ever
With 42 shows in the month of June, Junkyard Symphony is proving to be one of the top booking acts on Ontario, with shows in Ottawa, Kitchener, Waterloo, Mississauga, Smithville, Cornwall, Hull, Blackburn Hamlet, Gantineau, Manotick and Ingleside. A new member, Mary Gellner, aka Landfill Lil has joined the group to help pick up the slack. Mary is on of the few female drummers in town, not to mention one of the few good drummers in town. Mary also plays with Dave Milliken in the band "Milliken."

Junkyard Symphony recycles a Circus
Joined by Aytahn Ross, a juggler, Jeff Hill, a magicain, and Giacomo Trottier, a trampolinist, Junkyard Symphony performed the first version of the Recycled Circus, and it was a huge success. The show debued at the Bronson Centre on Sat Feb 26. With over 250 people, the show lasted for about an hour and 15 minutes and was extremely well recieved by all ages. Aytahn Ross performed his crystal balls and ping pong balls routine. Jeff Hill did his interlocking rings and Giacomo jumped over a ten foot pyramid of buckets into a pile of trash all to the beat of Junkyard Symphony's junk. All in all, Cirque de Soleil better watch out, because there is some new competition arising.

Junkyard Symphony climbs the Klondike
Joined by local singer/songwriter Jenae Rogers, Tony and Jonny wowed the folks in Edmonton during this year's klondike Days in Edmonton, Alberta. In 10 days, Junkyard Symphony performed 39 Junkyard Jam shows, 2 Recycle Rock shows, 4 Planet Junk shows, learned to 2 step, survived a hospital ordeal, and a Beverly Mahood concert. Jenae, who had never even praticed with the band, put on a spectacular performance and we will be sure to see her again down the road. Speaking of the road, it took the boys 3 days to drive home to Ottawa in the Junk mobile. Jonny drove the van out west in early July with his wife Alma and daughter Gina all the way to Vancouver with a little stop over in Pigeon Lake for an Olsen Family Reunion. Of course, Jonny did a show to the delight of the family who thought he was the hired entertainment rather than a family member.

Junkyard Symphony's Soundscapes surprises House of Blues
JYS's Soundscapes had a wonderful show in Cambridge Ontario at the Lakealive Festival in mid June. Upon first hearing the name "Junkyard Symphony", organizers, The House of Blues were a little reluctant to add the band to the main stage preceding a performance of Randy Bachman, but after a bang up show, organizers and spectators were pleasantly suprised to find that the Garbage and Guitars wasn't garbage after all. The Junkyard Jam also had a hit show for the kids, as the bulk of the crowd seem to pay more attention to Jonny and Tony than the main stage.

Junkyard Jam warms Winterlude
Junkyard Jonny and Trashcan Tony had a snowfull time at Winterlude entertaining the crowds on the main stage in Jaques Cartiers Park. Performing the Funk on the Junk show allowed the band to keep moving and the crowd to keep coming back for more. Over the three weeks, the Jam performed 24 shows to over 6000 people.

Sounscapes a big hit!
The newest Junkyard Project "Soundscapes", had their first appearance at Zaphod Beelebrox last night to a welcoming crowd. The new project offers a little conventionalism while still keeping with the theme of using junk to make music. Junkyard Jonny contstructed a drumset out of buckets, a water jug with botle caps duct taped to the top for a snare, and two stove top reflector pans stuck together for a hi-hat. For cymbals he used plates, which have a note instead of a crash, so Jonny was forced to evolve from his drummer status to becoming a real musician. Junkyard Jen had a treat in taking over lead vocals, backed up by the deep sounds of Handsome Hans and Dashing Dave Milliken's sweet accoustic guitar sounds. Amazing Al was there of course blowing some sax, and the night was a hit.

Junkyard Gina joins the band
At 7:23pm, a tiny new member became part of the Junk Clan, Junkyard Gina. Weighing 7 pounds and 15 ounces, Gina came into the world with a huge head of hair, a million dollar smile and a drumstick in each hand. Daughter of Junkyard Jonny and Alma Moyeda, Gina will be playing on the pots and pans in no time, just like her daddy.

Junkyard Jonny show out of control
Like never before, Jonny has been become the lean-keen-show-machine. In the past month alone, Junkyard Jonny has performed over 30 shows. That's alot of bathtub lifting :) From trips to Trenton, Kingston, and Barrie, Jonny will be rounding up a tour next month in Hamilton and Collingwood. Presently, he is working on the first draft of a new handbook due out next fall titled "Junkyard Jonny's Handbook on Rhythm and Recycling". The book will also include a Junkyard Jonny CD with some classics songs like "Shoe Gum" revived.

Mrs. Junk
On a happy note, Jonny is getting married on June 8 to Alma Moyeda. The marriage is going to take place on an Ottawa river boat cruise. You can bet for sure that this wedding will be like no others. Alma is a native of Mexico. The two met 8 years ago when Alma was studying ESL (English as a Second Language) with Jonny's mom Sally. Now Alma has returned from Mexico to claim her man. Asta La Vista Jonny!!

Junkyard Symphony still getting some radio play
The JS has been slowly but surely building on the waves. CBC had been playing 'Dream a Dream', 'Didjeridoo' and yes 'Lovejunk', Jonny's favorite underdog song. If you call into CBC radio, you can request any Junkyard Song. The band has been working on material for a third CD 'Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rock'.

Junkyard Jam survives a weekend in Hong Kong
Completely unaware of the lurking SARS virus, Junkyard Jonny and Trashcan Tony ventured into the beautiful city of Hong Kong for a three-day weekend in mid February to play a few shows at the City Gate shopping centre on Launtau island. The Jam packed as much sight seeing as they could into the short trip catching a foggy view from the Peek tower, shopping in Kowloon and sneeking in the back way to see the Big Bhudda. All in all the trip was lots of fun and The Jam discovered a new format to their show, which they will be featuring at busker festivals this summer. The new format involves very little talking and more playing. In a sense, the rhythm does the talking :)

Succi
The band had a fun trip to the Brass Taps at Guelph Universtiy last month. Molson was having a Succi/free Beer promo and they seemed to really like the Junkyard Symphony. DJ Junkyard Jay got to experience his first away gig and the band got to experience his snoring! The band also watched the movie "The Ring" just before performing. They were so scared that they wanted to skip the gig and go home. Good thing they didn't. The gig turned out well, and the turn out was great.

Summer of Junk
We had a great Junkyard Symphony summer. Some of the highlights included opening for Sarah Harmer with Junkyard Symphony at the Wolfe Island Music Festival in Kingston and being voted favorite band at the Brandford RiverFest. We had a little set back at the Great Northern Exhibition in Collingwood. The Junkyard Jam did 3 great shows on Saturday but unfortunately Jonny was in the hospital most of Sunday, so apologies to those who were hoping to see the Sunday show. Junkyard Symphony will also be producing a new show/class called "Junkyard Juniors". Classes start in October and will be held at the Nepean School of Music for students age 8-18. Those interested should call (613) 825-0557.

Hot Day for the Junkyard Jam
The Jam peformed two hot shows on Parlimanet hill yesterday for a great crowd and the Jumbotron. Unfortunately the sound check on the main stage came a little early and interupted the Jam's second show, so apologies to those who could not hear. The Jam also had a great show for 3000 people in Barhaven at Strandherd park later that evening. Thanks to all who attended. Apologies to those who were expecting the Junkyard Symphony show instead. Unfortunately Jay-Ess and Jen were lost in Strathcona park. Better luck next time!

Junkyard Jam plays in Walkerton, ON
The Junkyard Jam just got back from a long journey to Walkerton for the Green Step Environmental Fair. The show went well but the highlight of the trip was when Jonny gambled on the candy slot machines at a rest stop on the 401 and won an extra pack of Jelly Tots and two packs of gum. Passerby's seemed a little confused to see Jonny and Tony giving each other high fives for winning candy, as if they had just won a big jack pot at the Casino. That's what happens when you spend 14 hours in the junk mobile, but then again, Jelly Tots are really good. A week earlier Junkyard Symphony returned from a successful performance in Guelph at Peter Clark Hall for all the COCA crew. The response was great and Junkyard Symphony has hopes to snag a few college gigs this fall from the showcase. K-OS was there and did a standing ovation performance. He had a tabla player and a kick-ass guitar player joining him on stage.

CD launch definetely not junk
Well the Junkyard Symphony just had their Cd release party at Barrymores and it was huge success. The club was packed to the gills. The show started off with Junkyard Symphony's theme song Love Junk, while gogo dancers went crazy, creating a James Bond silhouette dance, to a grand finally of confetti and a big gong. The curtain dropped to Tony and Jonny who launched into the Junkyard Jam, then were joined with Jay Ess on the steel drum to a exciting opening. Stephenie and Cynthia joined the boys on stage and the show officially began with Blue Recycle Box.
Guest Stars included Billy Vanilly on turntables, Algie on sax, Dave Olsen on piano, Don Estabrook and Aytahn Ross on Black Light clubs, and Dave and Cindy Milliken on guitar and bass. Opening for Junkyard were Eric Eggleston and The Flavour Vendors, who put on crazy energeic show, Kathy Kennedy, with some smooth harmonies, and Nice Rack with their nice racks and Joan Jet covers. All in all the evening was one wild show. Definetly an eveing to remember.

Junkyard Jam returns from Singapore
Well the Junkyard Jam just got back from Singapore and had a blast performing at the Singapore River Busker Festival, a ten day feast of jugglers and fire eaters from Australia to Scotland, and of course our lovable junk percussion masters from Ottawa. Tony and Jonny both went on this trip. After spending a week readjusting, they are finally on Canada time again. Playing everyday for ten days straight then partying afterwards seemed to take a little out of them but they took advantage of all the fun that was to be had. Some of their sites include Chinatown (this one is funny because Singapore is one big Chinatown), little India, Sentosa Beach, and the all famous Zouk Out, a big beach bash with tons of scantily clad oriental women and happening hip-hop DJ's. Tony and Jonny spent most of the night taking pictures with hot women to make it look to their friends back home as if they knew all these babes. The Jam even got to play for the President of Singapore at the famous and fancy Fullerton hotel.
Of course there was their own hotel, the Gallery Evason, a five star hotel with a giant fish tank pool on the roof where there was a little skinny-dipping to be had... and then there was a room with a central light control. It took Jonny about half an hour to figure out that the reason why the bathroom light kept turning on and off. We can thank Trashcan Tony for that one.
The highlight of the trip was playing at the Fullerton Shopping Center to a crowd of five hundred people, then receiving a pretty bonus for getting their pictures taken for Tourism Singapore. The real highlight of the trip was when a gang of performers knocked on the Bomba Brothers (from the Netherlands) door to see if they wanted to party. They answered the door completely naked, stood there for a moment, and then said "Sure come on in". They also got to see their buddy Johnny Favorite play at Harry's, a local jazz Bar.
